Prez Gary opened today’s meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Thought for the Day: The person who always does their best rises naturally to be a leader… (or something like that – sorry I missed the whole thing, Pete!)

Today’s Program

Donna Schuler is today’s speaker, addressing Communications and Using Media for Highest Impact. Donna is our club’s President-elect, and has her own strategic management consulting business.

But first, Finemaster John Cottle asked questions about Communications and Media. We learned a lot!

Donna shared the three main reasons that anyone communicates: to Inform, Persuade, and/or Entertain. Communication requires both a Sender – how well is the message communicated? – and a Receiver – is the intended message received?

Donna shared the following links and Rotary resources, showing examples of effective communication within Rotary:

  1. Our new Mendocino Rotary Club webpage

  1. Our District 5130 webpage

  1. Mendocino Rotary on Facebook (if you have a Facebook account)

Donna also shared that there’s a new Rotary app for mobile devices… with it, you can find Rotary clubs to visit wherever you travel.

Announcements

Sign-up sheet for Casino Night is being passed around – we need volunteers for set up, clean up and to work the event, which is at the Hill House on Feb. 25 this year. We also need raffle prizes! Each member must donate at least one raffle prize, minimum value $25. Gary asked everyone present what prizes each member is bringing… Every member must buy two tickets for Casino Night, and can re-sell them or use them themselves. Additional tickets are available for sale as well; tickets are $50 each, and include $100 is gambling chips. Sponsorships are $250; last year we had 16, we’re aiming for 20 this year. The sponsorship money is pure profit, so let’s get as many of these as possible!

Charter Night is 1/27/17, with a wonderful program put together. We will not have a regular Rotary meeting on 1/26, due to Charter Night on 1/27.

Pete announced that speakers are needed for February and March, so please sign up and let him know who your speaker will be.

Happy Dollars:

  • Heather is happy that she and her husband had a great ski trip last week, with everyone coming home uninjured!
  • John C. is happy to be back…

Today’s Raffle Prize – Jimmy had the winning ticket, and won a bottle of wine! Congrats!
