Beautiful, Illustrated Dictionaries That Adults Like, Too
By Susan Cimmiyotti, Chair, Vocational Committee
Each year the school district sends us a list of 3rd graders in our Mendocino School District (Mendocino, Comptche, Albion, and Elk). We order and work with the Rotary District in Petaluma to get the dictionaries and name tags to go inside.
When they arrive in Petaluma, a Rotarian deliveries them to several areas. Ours have been delivered to either Willits or Ukiah, and my husband, Bob, has picked them up for us. This year I wrote all the names on the name plates and placed them on the inside front, scheduled appointments at all the schools). Then Caleb, Don Hill and I delivered and presented them to each 3rd grader.
The children love having their own book with their name inside.
For some children, it is the only book they own and sometimes the only book in their home. The children are lovely and appreciative – the experience is very rewarding.
