President Donna opened our meeting with words of gratitude for our support during her year as President.

Guests: Wayne and Lynn Jorgeson, visiting from Ventura Rotary.

LaDonna and Rick McDonald are here from Arizona.

Thought of the Day: Hyman Rickover (sp?) “It is necessary for us to learn from others’ mistakes. You will not live long enough to make all of them yourself.”

We shared many, many happy dollars today!

The memorial service for our dearly missed club member Frank Engelhardt is this Saturday and 11am at St Micheal’s church in Fort Bragg.

Today’s Program

Club members Jeff, Donna, John C and Matt all traveled (with some spouses!) to Fiji, Vanuatu, and New Zealand in April/May 2018. Jeff and Donna and Matt shared photos from the trip, and we learned a lot about these South Pacific islands, their people and their culture. They met with several Rotary clubs in all the islands they visited.

Our team identified many projects that are worthy of our ongoing support, in addition to visiting projects we’ve already supported. All the projects are targeted at remote and/or poor communities, and focus on schools, health, education, women and children, water and sanitation, and promoting peace.

Announcements

Gary is our incoming President and we still need to nominate our President-Elect. Brandt has agreed to be our President-Nominee (serving the year after the President-Elect).

We discussed our Rotary Park event on July 4, which will include face painting for kids, food and beverages for sale, handing out flags, and a membership table. LaDonna presented her Dunky Cup, and she and Rick brought 25 Dunky Cups to give away at the event. There will be a puppet show following the parade as well.

Golf Tournament: our date is 8/18. We need teams, hole sponsorships, prizes, hole game sponsors… Jody will be emailing flyers to us to use to recruit these items. Hole sponsor checks should be made out to Mendocino Rotary Club.

Fundraiser opportunity: to run the bar at a Cinders Productions event on the Saturday night of Winesong. We’ll need 4-5 solid commitments for volunteering to run the bar that night, and our club will receive all proceeds from the bar. We could raise $1500-$2000, in a single night, in return for use of our liquor license. Susan and Richard, Dean and Gary and John C and Sean will volunteer to tend bar, Ray will secure the permit.

Today’s Raffle Winner: Ray — congrats!
